Aja
Hi Friends! My name is Aja (not Asia). I’m a New Jersey native, now living in the great state of Texas. I never knew how much my love of BBQ could evolve!
I was adopted by the outdoors in 2020 during the pandemic. I was a competitive track and field athlete in college, so I'm used to being “outside”, but nothing like I've experienced since being introduced to mountain biking. When I ride my bike, I disconnect from everything else and reconnect with myself. I’ve made it my mission to help more women connect with each other and build lasting relationships on and off the bike.
Where do you live and what’s your day job?
I’m based in Dallas, TX, and I work in Change Management within healthcare. It’s a time of massive innovation—new technologies, tools, and patient experiences are reshaping the entire system.
My role is to help doctors, nurses, clinical team members, and hospital leaders get comfortable doing new things so that the future doesn’t feel so intimidating. I design the strategies that guide them through changes with clarity and confidence.
(And honestly, I use that same skill set in my personal life, too—lol.)
What are 3 words your best friends would use to describe you?
Intentional, grounded, kind.
What are 3 passions you have outside of work?
I’m in a season where I’m really embracing softness and simplicity. I used to ride my mountain bike more, and while I don’t hit the trails as often these days, I still love being outside. These days, I’m passionate about slowing down, being fully present, and creating space to just be. I find joy in making a peaceful breakfast, having porch conversations, and making sure the people in my life feel seen and loved. I believe that who I am—not just what I do—is my most valuable offering.
How do you help build community in the outdoors?
For years, I’ve been actively building community in the mountain biking world—hosting fundraisers, free clinics, and even organizing the first beginner enduro race in Texas. I helped grow Empower MTB into a thriving women’s community that still sustains itself today. But I’ve also come to believe that building community doesn’t always have to be loud or visible. Sometimes it’s gathering women in my cul-de-sac for a glass of wine and laughter. Sometimes it’s inviting someone for a walk and making space for their story. The impact doesn’t always come from something big—it comes from intention.
Why Wild Rye?
Because Wild Rye honors the full spectrum of womanhood. You don’t have to be climbing peaks every weekend to belong—you just have to be showing up fully as yourself. I love being part of something that uplifts individuality, growth, and connection in all its forms.
