Kaweah | Women's Bike Short
We don’t believe in compromise, which is why we made the Kaweah women’s mountain bike short: a do-everything, go-anywhere short that will keep you on the bike during those long summer evenings or chilly fall mornings. The Kaweah is designed with a durable polyester/elastane blend to give you a breathable mountain bike short that wicks sweat while moving with your pedal stroke. A DWR finish ensures that even the muddiest puddles won’t dampen your style.
Now available in GIRLS sizing - shop Kaweah Girls now.
Note: the Kaweah is a slimmer cut with less stretch than the Freel, so when in doubt, size up! If you're looking for a short that accommodates a curvier body, we'd always recommend the Freel over the Kaweah.
(Don't see your size? Shoot us a message at email@example.com. In many cases, we're restocking soon!)
The Kaweah prints bring some extra detail compared to the Freel with our popular poppy print in a subdued midnight version, a recoloration of our popular Geometry Class, a fresh take on island life in our new Isla print and finally our retro-inspired disco dahlia print!
You might be wondering what the difference is between the Kaweah and Freel. The two shorts share a lot in common: water repellency, a great fit, phenomenal style, and durability. The main differences you’ll find are in the fabric and thus the price! The Kaweah is a polyester blend, while the Freel is nylon. If you buy shorts from any of our fellow MTB loving brands, you’ll be familiar with a polyester short. It’s the workhorse. If you're still not sure how to pick the best shorts for you, check out our new Kaweah vs Freel comparison chart, here.

This is my second pair of the kaweah shorts - I'm between size 4 and 6 so I go with the 6 (I'm 5'11" and 140lbs/ shaped like a noodle but the 4 are tight on my quads despite wearing small in other brands). I need to wear a belt or else they are falling off; this may be something to consider if you are also between sizes and wearing a fanny pack and don't want many layers around your gut...
I love how the fabric wicks mud/ dirt and it also protects my skin from abrasion when I say hello to the ground. Unfortunately after wearing this second pair on 5-6 rides, the hemming between the legs has worn and there are loose ends of stitching. I only noticed when the stitching caught my seat post and surprised me. I was totally bummed because my other pair had the same issue but on the outside of the leg - I attributed the stitching issue on my first pair to wear and tear since I put a lot of miles on my first pair of shorts. Upon more thought I noted I have shorts in other brands that I have had for several years without any stitching issue like both of these shorts.
If it wasn't for the stitching coming loose so quickly (and maybe the sizing being so loose around my hips with the 6) I would give them 5 stars. I love the pockets and find them quite functional. It's very easy to get your phone in and out of the side pocket as well as stash a quick snack. I've also had many compliments on the trail from other riders.
I love these shorts! They never wrinkle. I found the size to be true to size, waist and hips, if anything a little loose in the thighs, legs
I am so glad I invested in the Kaweah shorts. They were true to size and honestly the most comfortable shorts I have ever owned. I’m constantly getting asked what brand they are and my instant response it to feel the stretch! Love them. I don’t have many biking clothes yet but these have sold me on Wild Rye forever. Can’t wait for more.
I’m 5’4 and 120 pounds. Ordered a size 4
NOT recommended for curvy gals! I read the description and still went up a size according to the size guide and they were still so tight! Very bummed because I look at Wild Rye as a size inclusive womens brand but do not feel that with these shorts!
But unfortunately not made for curvy girls. Need a yoga waist band. I was so sad And couldn't return them because it was a final sale.
