Wild Rye Team Gift Guide

The team here at Wild Rye loves the holidays! We love the snow, skiing with friends and family, spending time with so many special people in our lives and the time spent considering our gifting! This year we're trying especially hard to gift consciously, whether we're shopping local, supporting women-led brands or gifting from brands that are doing good things for the earth.  If you're still stumped with anyone on your list, hopefully some of these ideas will inspire you.  We'd love to hear what's on your shopping list in the comments below!

FROM KRISTA

Hedley & Bennett: Denver Crossback Apron

Who we're gifting it to: The kitchen champions, chefs in my life

Why it's worth special: On a recent wine country trip to Walla Walla, it seemed like every waiter and waitress was donning a legit apron from this company. Apparently the cross back makes it more comfortable if you’re slaving away for a family holiday meal for hours on end (been there). And, they offer monogram embroidery! Check out some of their collabs for some other fun options.

Wild Rye: Evie & Jane Merino Base Layers

Who we'll be gifting it to: All the ladies in my life

Why it's special: Whether they're used for downhill, Nordic or snowshoe adventurers, I love the anything but boring take on a black base layer with just the right touch of color and femininity. I've been wearing these on repeat as I’m starting my ski season!

Pladra: Men’s Cascade Shirt

Who we're gifting it to: The casual guys in my life who need to class it up occasionally

Why it's special: We first fell in love with Pladra when they were a kick-ass client of ours a ways back. We still think they best the best flannel in town ft. a contemporary fit, the softest quality materials, strong construction, and—our favorite—the perfect touch of cheeky with an outdoors-inspired print detail on the collar and cuffs.

The Wild Unknown by Kim Krans: Animal Spirit Deck & Guidebook

For: The open-minded ladies in my life

Why it's special: Krista and some best friends discovered these at a friend’s cozy cabin up north this summer and were instantly captivated by the life insights, goosebump moments, honest and to-the-point descriptions and beautiful illustrations created by Krans. Whether you’re a “believer” or not, this fresh take on a tarot card deck will inspire any nature lover who wants to open their mind.

FROM CASSIE

Simply Straws: Party Pack of Glass Straws

Who we're gifting it to: Stocking stuffers for everyone

Why they're worth gifting: One straw for every stocking! Simply straws check two of my most important shopping buckets.  1) It’s a product that facilitates better personal environmental practices.  2) It’s female founded and led. Enough said!

James Niehues: The Man Behind the Maps Coffee Table Book

Who we're gifting it to: The die-hard skiers in my life

What's special about it? Ever notice that just about every ski map across the country has a similar look and style? Well, that’s because just about every single one has been hand painted by the same man, the legendary James Niehues. The book features over 200 ski resort trail maps, the first and definitive compilation of the art created by James Niehues during his 30-year career.

Wild Rye: Heyburn Crew

Who we're gifting it to: The busy mountain women in my life

Why it's special: This is the coziest and most versatile layer. Think your favorite sweatshirt, that doesn’t make you look like you walked off an athletic field. For someone like me who loves to be cozy, the Heyburn is a no brainer: not overly built with clean, contemporary lines and a touch of tech for mountain living. It's even mountain town office appropriate!

Black Crows: Duos Poles

Who we're gifting it to: the Hubby

Why it's special? Well, one might say a pole is a pole, but Mike has been pestering me for this particular pair of poles for the last year.  He love the long grip and adjustable length for transitioning from the up and the down (and the occasional cornice whacking). Black Crows is one of our favorite hard goods brands, based out of Chamonix? Why? There are really good people behind the brand and their design ethos give us so much to strive for.  Lastly, it's a good reminder that skiing in Chamonix is still on our bucket list.

FROM SILJE

Wild Carrot Herbals: Lord! My Hands Are So Dry! Lotion

Who we're gifting it to: The hard-workin’ cracked-hander’s

Why it's special: Made by a small women-led company in northeast Oregon, this lotion is perfect for desert-dwellers who wants to prevent hand-drought. A true dermal revival, this lotion is gently-scented using honest, nutrient-rich ingredients. Good stocking-stuffer for guys & gals alike!

Wild Rye x Skida: Ranunculus Bandita

Who we're gifting it to: Stocking stuffers for winter babes

Why it's special: Add a little flare to your winter kit with a Bandita, the bandana-buff mashup. With snow/sleet-resistant fabric on the outside, and snuggly soft microfleece on your face, this layer belongs on wintery adventures. The velcro closure lets you take it off when you’re slugging up a hill, and throw it on for the way back down – all without taking off your hat or helmet. Dogs look good in them too. Arguably better than their humans.

Big Hollow Designs: WhatVest

Who gifting to: The McSenderson-minimalists

Why it's special: Designed for those who prefer to travel light while they shred, this style-y vest-backpack-combo fits all your essential backcountry gear. WhatVests are made with special pockets for your shovel, probe, and beacon, as well as a pouch to fit a hydration pack, and straps for carrying your skis/board. When you’ve gotten your essentials into one of these water-resistant, padded vests, there’s guaranteed still room for a couple burritos.
