Monthly Muse: June 2021

Monthly Muse: June 2021

In our Monthly Muse, take a behind-the-scenes look at what keeps the hard-working women of Wild Rye learning, loving and inspired. We'll talk about books we're reading, videos we're watching, as well as podcasts and music we're blasting in our headphones. We also love to cook, stay on top of current events and discuss creators that make us see this beautiful world we #playwild in through a different lens. We hope what inspires us, inspires you too. Thank you for supporting us, challenging us and inspiring us every step of the way.

What We're Stoked About

Wild Rye Team Photo

We're hiring! When I launched Wild Rye five years ago, I was determined to create a business that would offer more professional opportunities for young, talented, hard-working and fun women right here in the Wood River Valley. Fast forward to today (with a lot of speed bumps along the way), we had our first in-person Wild Rye team meeting with all five of our full-time employees and it was a magical scene. We're growing fast and currently hiring for our sixth position: Product Development. I'm beyond stoked to round out our team and so excited to see the the mountains we'll move and the impact we'll have on our mission to elevate women in the outdoors and in business. - Co-Founder & CEO Cassie Abel

What We're Watching

GGED

Girls Gotta Eat Dirt, a Ripton & Co Film -  This short was so inspiring, we had to feature it two months in a row! It injects so much joy into mountain biking and we loved that it was just some bad ass girls, shredding the shit out of their bikes, drinking PBR and laughing. Pretty dang iconic, if you ask us!

What We're Listening To

Bikes & Big Ideas Podcast: Casey Brown- Paving the Way & the Future of Women's Freeride - Casey is the pioneer or women's freeride and such an inspirational rider. In this episode, she discusses her first bike, choosing mountain biking over skiing, her experience mentoring riders at Formation and the future of women's freeride. Give this a listen today!

What We're Reading

Title Nine Spread

The Title Nine Catalog - Check out our spread in the Summer 2021 issue! Our shorts are "an absolute must-own that you didn't know you needed."

We're also reading The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell. We love a psychological thriller, and this one is full of dark secrets and suspense. If you enjoyed Where The Crawdads Sing, this is a must-read.

What We're Cooking

Pulled Pork Sandwich

It's almost grilling season! We smoked a pork shoulder for 8 hours in our Traeger Grill to make pulled pork sandwiches for a river trip! It was delicious and a big hit at camp. This recipe is easy to prep and is worth the wait. Give it a try for your next outdoor adventure.

What/Who We're Inspired By

Kaia Downhill

Two of our ambassadors, Kaia and Krystin, were invited to dig at Red Bull Formation last week! This event is a first-of-its-kind progression session for women’s freeride mountain biking, held in Virgin, Utah. Our good friend and bad-ass photographer, Katie Lozancich, is also shooting the event for the second year in a row! Peep their instas for some fun behind-the-scenes action... you might even catch a sneak peek of one of our most exciting new fall products!

How We're Relaxing

This has been a busy month in the office! We've taken breaks to hike with our pups, bike with friends and enjoy the wildflowers that are starting to pop up on the trails! The warmer weather has also inspired a few of us to buy more plants and work on re-potting, trimming, and propagating all of them to make more. Love that plant-mom life.
