Wild Rye Monthly Muse: August

Wild Rye Monthly Muse: August

Summer is winding down, evening rides are getting colder and shorter and we're finding more time to hunker down indoors and around the house. Here are a few things we're stoked on this month... and think you will be too! But before we dive into the good stuff, have you registered to VOTE? If not, we encourage you to do so now as the November elections are just about eight weeks away.

Get registered to vote right here!

What we're reading: Untamed, Glennon Doyle

Untamed Glennon DoyleI'm just starting to dive into this one (thanks to my fellow @lady_shred friend, Alyssa), but I already believe it's a book every woman should read. As a new mom, this part of the description really got me, "It is the story of how one woman learned that a responsible mother is not one who slowly dies for her children, but one who shows them how to fully live." Check out Glennon's book here!

What we're following: Honing Her Craft newsletter

Our friend Amelia Arvesen, a journalist who has interviewed hundreds of people from all over the world started Honing Her Craft as a way for womxn to feel empowered by their creative outlets. In this newsletter, you can expect to meet a new female-identifying creative each Tuesday.

By “creative,” she means a diverse set of writers, poets, graphic designers, painters, filmmakers, photographers, entrepreneurs, brewers, bakers, inventors, planners, and others. Digging deep into their processes, how they make money, how they find inspiration, and how you can support them.

Check out Amelia's newsletter here!

What we're listening to: My Solo Road Podcast

I seriously have been listening to this everyday- while packing orders and answering emails odds are I'm listening to this! Ever wondered what it would be like to explore the world in 70 square feet entirely alone?

On “My Solo Road”, Sydney brings you along her journey of traveling in a van as a solo female. While tackling struggles such as safety, finances, and loneliness, she also shares stories about life on the road, every day experiences, and how she got here. Grab a glass of wine or a beer (she’s got one) and learn how one woman escaped her 80 hour work week to live a messy, yet beautiful dream.

Treat your ears to Sydney's audible inspiration here! - Jascha

What we're cooking: 1 pot meals

I don't know about you, but I do not like spending time in the kitchen, especially in the summer. I like washing a bunch of dishes even less. Enter Mexican-inspired one-pot Quinoa.

Read the Damn Delicious recipe Here!

Ingredients:

  1 tablespoon olive oil
  2 cloves garlic, minced
  1 jalapeno, minced
  1 cup quinoa
  1 cup vegetable broth
1 (15-ounce) can black beans,    drained and rinsed
  1 (14.5 oz) can fire-roasted diced tomatoes
1 cup corn kernels, frozen, canned or roasted
  1 teaspoon chili powder
  1/2 teaspoon cumin
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 avocado, halved, seeded, peeled and diced
  Juice of 1 lime
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
Pro Tip: Add grilled chicken, hot sauce and some melted cheese if you want to really zhuzh it up.

What we're drinking: Sweet As Beer from Good Life Brewing.

    Seriously good - Cheers  🍻

    Who we're stoked on: Kami

Colorado native adventurer Kami joined our "Pro" team recently! According to Kami, "I am so excited to be part of the Wild Rye Pro Team! To me, being part of this team is an opportunity to connect with other women, and women of color, to help diversify the trails. I’ve seen the magic that happens when women support other women and I’m excited to get more of us on two wheels, whether this is your first ride or your hundredth." We're thrilled to have Kami representing Wild Rye in SW Colorado.

Please help us welcome Kami and follow her adventures @followthebeartracks!

    What we're working on:
    3rd Annual Women Led Wednesday

We're getting ramped up behind the scenes to bring you and the rest of the world the 3rd Annual Women-Led Wednesday initiative!

New to us, new to the initiative?

Women-Led Wednesday is a purpose-driven holiday - much like Small Business Saturday - aimed to support womxn in leadership and create a more gender-balanced economy through collective purchasing power.

In addition, the Women-Led Wednesday boasts a womxn-led brand directory featuring over 350 womxn-led brands. Want to learn more about how you can join in and support? Know a womxn-led consumer products brand who should join us?

You can learn more here! & follow the movement here!

What we're wearing: Sandia Adventure Shirt (Long Sleeve)

With mornings in the mid 50's and evening's in the 60's the Sandia Jersey is our go-to top. Nothings worse than being sweaty at the top of a ride, catching a wind chill and wishing you had more coverage.

The Sandia shirt is ultra breathable, has snack pockets, and features SPF protection because let's be real, sun exposure is not something to skimp on.

Thanks for catching up with us this month! We'd love to see what you're up to, tag us @Wild_Rye_ on IG to share the fun!

Facing Your Fear, Two Wheels At A Time

For many, the ski/ride community and the bike community is a web of similarities as the feeling of getting out into the mountains is the main idea. That was not the case for "Pro" Teamer, Emily.
