A pleasant surprise

I recently purchased the Freel Flex Bike Shorts in two different sizes, and overall, I have generally positive feelings about this product. Let me break it down for you.

First and foremost, the fit of these bike shorts is fantastic. I appreciate the fact that I was able to find two sizes that worked well for me. As a plus size individual, finding comfortable and flattering activewear can sometimes be a challenge. However, both sizes I tried seemed to accommodate my body shape nicely. The stretchy material allowed for easy movement and didn't constrict me during the rides.

One issue I encountered, though, was with the snaps on the shorts. If you have a belly or tend to bend over frequently, you might experience some trouble. On the smaller size I purchased, the snaps occasionally popped open when I was in a bent-over position. This was a bit disappointing as it affected the overall functionality of the shorts. It would be great if the manufacturer could improve the strength of the snaps, especially for individuals with bellies.

Additionally, I found the length of the shorts to be a tad long, particularly for shorter individuals. As someone on the shorter side, I prefer bike shorts that hit above the knee for a more comfortable fit. However, the Freel Flex Bike Shorts were slightly longer than I anticipated. It would be wonderful if they offered more length options to cater to people of different heights.

On the positive side, the stretchy fabric of these bike shorts is excellent. The material has a good amount of stretch without losing its shape. I didn't experience any waist gap, which is often a problem with plus size activewear that doesn't consider people with larger hips. The shorts hugged my curves nicely and provided a comfortable fit throughout my rides and workouts.

I wish the brand would expand its range of shorts made with this material. It seems to be a winner, and having more style options available would be a welcome addition. Having more choices in this particular fabric would ensure a wider selection for individuals who appreciate its stretchiness and comfort.

These shorts are a solid option for plus size bikers. The accommodating fit and stretchy material make them a comfortable choice for active individuals. However, the weak snaps and longer length might pose some issues for people with bellies or shorter stature. If you fall into the plus size category and don't mind these minor drawbacks, I would recommend giving these shorts a try. With some improvements, they could become a go-to choice for many plus size mountain bikers!

Super comfortable :)

I never notice them squeezing my waist or thighs when riding, and I never notice any discomfort between my legs from a badly placed seam. I think that's the best quality that a pair of cycling shorts can have, you forget you're wearing them. I wear a size 14, but there is a gap in the waist. Since they are so high waisted (which I love) this isn't a huge issue (I'm not afraid of my crack hanging out like with other shorts lol), just not super flattering if I want to wear a cropped shirt.

While I love that Wild Rye has created these wonderful size inclusive shorts, simply adding more stretch and inches to the waistband is not what I would consider a "curvy" fit. My waist measures 33" and my hips are 45.5". I am in between sizes with all companies. If the bottoms fit around my booty and thighs without squeezing, the waist is too big. Same for these shorts. So while they work for apple shaped curvy, they aren't the perfect fit for pear or hourglass curvy. Luckily, there are belt loops, but only in the front, so the stretchy waistband in the back still has a gap.

These shorts would be perfect if they had little adjustors on the side to cinch in the waist. Weirdly, I notice a lot of men's pants have those, but not women's. There is so much variance in waist to hip ratio with women I feel like this is the key to making bottoms fit us "curvy" babes.

These shorts are already expensive, so if I had to lose the lower thigh pocket as a tradeoff for the waist adjustor, that would be worth it to me. Although I do love the color pop there. I love the large standard location(?) upper thigh pockets. I carry my phone in there, there's enough room to angle it so it doesn't interfere with my thigh fold and it always feels secure.

If you're on the fence and don't fit on the size chart like me, I would still absolutely recommend these shorts. The high waist makes all the difference.

Spot on!!

These shorts are super comfy and stretchy!! Love the print as well. They either run a little big or I am losing weight BUT theses are the first pair of mtb shorts that I didn’t feel like I was busting out of the seams!!
