Kaweah | Women's Bike Short
We don’t believe in compromise, which is why we made the Kaweah women’s mountain bike short: a do-everything, go-anywhere short that will keep you on the bike during those long summer evenings or chilly fall mornings. The Kaweah is designed with a durable 90% recycled poly/10% spandex blend to give you a breathable mountain bike short that wicks sweat while moving with your pedal stroke. A DWR finish ensures that even the muddiest puddles won’t dampen your style.
Now available in GIRLS sizing - shop Kaweah Girls now.
Note: the Kaweah is a slimmer cut with less stretch than the Freel, so when in doubt, size up! If you're looking for a short that accommodates a curvier body, we'd always recommend the Freel over the Kaweah.
(Don't see your size? Shoot us a message at email@example.com. In many cases, we're restocking soon!)
The Kaweah prints bring some extra detail compared to the Freel with our popular poppy print in a subdued midnight version, a recoloration of our popular Geometry Class, a fresh take on island life in our new Isla print and finally our retro-inspired disco dahlia print!
You might be wondering what the difference is between the Kaweah and Freel. The two shorts share a lot in common: water repellency, a great fit, phenomenal style, and durability. The main differences you’ll find are in the fabric and thus the price! The Kaweah is a polyester blend, while the Freel is nylon. If you buy shorts from any of our fellow MTB loving brands, you’ll be familiar with a polyester short. It’s the workhorse. If you're still not sure how to pick the best shorts for you, check out our new Kaweah vs Freel comparison chart, here.
Wild Rye ships via USPS (yep, we’re buying up as many stamps as possible to do our part to save the US Postal Service) - please provide your PO Box address if that is how you get your mail (talking to you mountain town people!)
We offer a 30 day return / exchange policy from ship date. Final sale items are noted in the product description - these items cannot be returned for any reason. Full details here.

Cute, comfortable, durable, I reach for these shorts every time I ride!
The quality seems really good and I love the material and the print! However, the fit is just not great. I sized up like it said to online only to find the waist was much too big and the thighs were still too snug (for reference I am 5'3, 130# with muscular legs and a small-ish waist). I could maybe make them work if the waistband was adjustable, but I am definitely not going to wear a belt mountain biking. I had a few other similar sized friends try them on and no one could make the fit work. If they weren't final sale i would be sending them back.
I want so bad to give 5*! I love everything about these shorts, the length, stretch, ability to wear pads but still look good without. That being said, the sizing is off for me. I ordered a size 6, I have these shorts in another color in size 8 and they fit very large on me. I thought a size 6 would work perfect but these are very tight to the point that I don’t really want to wear them on the regular. I’ve worn them on a handful of rides hoping they would stretch but no luck. Bummer.
I ordered these on sale and sized up as folks suggested in reviews. The shorts are SUPER cute, but they are not made for people with big butts and thighs. The back barely covers my butt, thankfully the chamois/chammy covers everything. They have the issues with the usual short made for a thin frame: pucker/gap in the back, tight in the thighs and butt, lower on the butt. I can ride in them as a backup pair (no returns :( for the sale) but I wouldn't recommend these to my curvy gals out there! They also kind of feel like they trap in some heat around the legs, I wouldn't mind vents.
Hi Katie - thank you for the feedback. We try to message clearly that this short is a straighter cut and the fabric has less stretch and that if you consider yourself to be curvier we'd always recommend the Freel. That said, we're always working to improve all our products to accomodate more shapes and sizes with everything we do, so any and all feedback is incredibly important. Thank you! Good news for you, we are launching a new peer to peer re-commerce platform within the next few days, so please feel free to sell your Kaweah's to someone who will love them! Keep an eye out for more info in your inbox in the next day or so. :)
These shorts seem to be designed for especially tall/lean women. I'm usually a solid size 6 in any short, but these are tighter and longer than I would like. The sizing seems to run small. I wouldn't think they're a great option for most muscular cycling ladies.
