Freel | Women's Bike Short
AVAILABLE IN SIZES: 0-18
Our flagship short, the Freel has been Outside Magazine’s Gear of the Year and is beloved by mountain bikers everywhere, from the Alps to the Bitterroots. Made with shrub-resistant and mud-deflecting nylon, the Freel is an enduro ready short that seamlessly takes you from the red rocks of Moab to the loamy single track of the PNW. With four-way stretch, deep pockets, and our unique collection of playful prints, the Freel is a beautifully designed short that’s still technical as hell. No compromises, it’s our favorite workhorse.
Wild Thing: We love a graphic neutral and the Wild Thing’s unique white on black pattern captures the playfulness of traditional animal prints but reimagines it as something you would want to wear everyday!
Poppy: The poppy thrives equally on urban medians and open hillsides. This resilient, special flower follows the sun, and since you can’t pick them, we’ve collected them for you in this print!
Breezy Rye: An homage to our name, the Breezy Rye print showcases the humble, native grasses that sustain the plains and the mountains of our native west.
Wild West: Are you sensing a theme? We’re very into landscape and the Wild West print is rooted in the traditions and images of the northern rockies, and in particular, Idaho, which Wild Rye calls home.
Wild Rye ships via USPS (yep, we’re buying up as many stamps as possible to do our part to save the US Postal Service) - please provide your PO Box address if that is how you get your mail (talking to you mountain town people!)
We offer a 30 day return / exchange policy from ship date. Final sale items are noted in the product description - these items cannot be returned for any reason. Full details here.

Very comfortable and stylish! Perfect amount of stretch but also durability. Love supporting a local, women-run business. Keep up the good work, Wild Rye!
I bought these for my wife for her birthday, and she's really happy with them! She has wore them on a few rides now, and she likes the way these shorts feel and move, and really likes the zippered pocket. She wears a size 8, which fits her thighs and booty but is loose around her waist. The shorts have belt loops, but she doesn't like wearing belts and would prefer it if the waistband had the velcro pull-tabs found on other bike shorts (and on a lot of snow gear). Overall, great mountain bike shorts, that are also really pretty! They arrived quite quickly too, for an international order :)
These are my third pair of Freel shorts! This bright blue Breezy Rye caught my eye . These shorts are very comfortable. The smooth, stretchy fabric is not too heavy and are good when temps are high.
I’m between a 4 and a 6. I ordered the 6 again because I’ld would rather loose than on tighter side when I ride. I find I need to wear a belt with these shorts so I wear the awesome Wild Rye belt too .
I really wanted the orange "Wild West" short, but my size wasn't available. (I am weary of black and navy blue colored shorts. .) Reluctantly, I ordered the blue "Breezy Rye". This color is NOT navy, but more of an azure blue. I am 5 ft. 1 in and 100 pounds soaking wet - petite. I wear a size 2 in Patagonia Dirt Craft shorts, so I ordered the size 2 Wild Rye. They fit great. The Wild Rye are a little looser than my Patagonia size 2, but I prefer baggier, so I am pleased about that. I'm sharing my size, height and other brand sizing since some of the other online reviews mentioned they were a size 2, but they are taller and heavier than diminutive me. The knee length is a little long, but OK. I really like the large pockets in front and the zippered large pocket for my phone. I haven't had any spectacular wipe outs lately :), but the material feels like it can take a beating. Next season, please make this short in another Orange print! It is fun (and safer on the wooded and shady trails I ride) to wear brighter colors than dull black and navy blue.
First impression after wearing them on a short local ride is that they are made of good durable stretchy material, they look cute, and I wasn't fidgeting with them at all on my ride... so they were functional and comfortable! I'm 5'2 and 110lbs and got the xs, if that helps anyone. They fit slightly big around the waist but I don't really care. Pros out weigh the cons at this point cause my other non mtn biking shorts ripped. Hope they last a long time, cause they are a bit pricy.
